Children in Wales joint signatory to letter calling upon the UK Government to protect children’s rights as we leave the EU
Writing to the Telegraph, Catriona Wales, Chief Executive of Children in Wales joined CEOs of Coram, The Children’s Society, National Children’s Bureau, Children England, Children in Scotland, Children and Families Across Borders, Children’s Rights Alliance England and Together (Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights) in calling on parliamentarians to ensure due consideration of the UK’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child when making amendments to the statue book.
The UK, they said, should set an example for others in protecting vulnerable young people. You can read the letter here.
In addition, the Children’s Society has published the discussion paper, Making Brexit Work for Children, on behalf of the Brexit and Children coalition, looking at the impact of Brexit on children.
Based on research, practice and consultation, the paper identifies seven priority areas of concern, including the transposition of EU law and children’s rights, the settlement status of EU national children in the UK, and children and young people living in poverty, amongst others.
