In Victoria Square in the centre of Aberdare stands a statue of Caradog. Designed by the world-famous sculptor Sir William Goscombe John, known as ‘The National Sculptor of Wales’, the statue was erected in 1920. It depicts Caradog conducting his choir with a Baton in his hand. Perched behind him is his violin. http://caradog.org.uk/finding-caradog/finding-the-staue/
My great-great-grandparents, Benjamin John and Mary An Meredith. This looks to be their wedding picture, ca 1862. The mystery is his scarf and the rose bud in her hand. Symbols of a union or friendly society or temperance organization? The sash has 2 vining flowers, 2 roses?,. a St. Andrew's cross, and two anchors at the bottom. She appears to be holding a rose.

As you will see the river is in full flow and looking mucky, Just after taking this photograph there was a quick flash of blue and I saw a Kingfisher ( For only the second time in my life ), thus prooving that the water in the Dare is getting cleaner and there are fish in there :)
This is photo 1 of 2 showing the Bridge spanning the river Dare from the Tram-road to the "Old Brick Works" Lyywdcoed.
As you can see with the weather we have been having the river is far from trickle.
I took a walk down to the "tram-road" on the only bright day we have had recently and as I walked through the shade of the canopy of the trees and bushes this was one of the sites that met my eyes.
Dog daisies form a wonderful show in early summer, often along roadside verges. The flowers are over an inch across, like small garden marguerites, borne singly on stalks a foot or so high.
