Aberdare Museum Open Day

The latest Open Day at the Cynon Valley Museum and Gallery takes place on Saturday, September 26.

Doors will be ‘Open’ from 10am until 4pm, with plenty of attractions and activities for all the family. All are welcome.

This fabulous FREE event, organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Cynon Valley Museum Trust, is aimed at all ages and will offer visitors the chance to discover what life was like in the County Borough in bygone years.

Take a nostalgic stroll among all the exhibits, including an old-fashioned corner shop – complete with its bell above the front door to tell the shopkeeper that customers have arrived!

Activities will include a FREE drum workshop, with musician Gerhard Kress, from 11.30am onwards. There is no need to bring along your own drum as percussion instruments will be provided.

Gerhard, who was born in Frankfurt-Am-Main, lived in Bristol for 20 years before moving to Rhondda Cynon Taf. He has an extensive private collection of Bodrhans (a traditional Celtic frame drum with a unique sound).

The workshop is aimed at both children and adults but booking a place in advance is essential.

Refreshments will also be on sale throughout the day at the Cynon Valley Museum and Gallery Café.

Members of the Cynon Valley Museum Trust will also be on hand to discuss the future development of the museum and talk to potential volunteers.
