When is the proposed new Doctors Surgery opening in Aberdare Cynon Linc
AberdareOnline last December, “Are you finding it difficult to get an appointment with your doctor?.” this is a follow to that storey, now having spoken to a number of people all wondering what is going on with the GP services in Cynon Valley at the moment.
Writing to Cwm Taf Morgannwg Community Health Council, in January requesting information, but not received the information requested I am writing this to ask residents if they are satisfied with the service their surgery is providing in Aberdare?
Most Cynon Valley residents will be aware of the renovation that has taken place on the St Mair’s Day Centre and the transfer of the Maendy Place Surgery into what’s now called the Cynon Linc; “Maendy Place GP Surgery will relocate from their current facility to deliver GP services. Cruse Bereavement Care RCT will also move to Cynon Linc to offer their confidential service.” The building was completed in October 2021 with the official opening in November by Julie James MS, Minister for Climate Change.
Patients were informed the Maendy Place Surgery would transfer in October 2021 but to date, this has not happened, the question now is will it happen? Speaking today with two people who are patients in the Maendy Place Surgery is concerned because of the extra distance and expense of travelling to the Abercwmboi Medical Practice, having to catch 2 buses to get to the Abercwmboi Surgery from Cwmbach, another patient having to get from Hirwaun to Abercwmboi surgery all because of the delay in opening the new surgery.
All these are questions that should be asked by the Cynon Valley MP and MS answered by Cwm Taf Morgannwg Community Health Council and Cwm Taf University Health Board
When I said will the Cynon Link Surgery be open should the question be asked about St Johns Surgery Aberdare Medical Centre now run by a private company Tarian Group Limited, is Tarian taking over Maendy Place Surgery in Aberdare? Would this be the case with patients registered in Maendy Place? Cynon Linc is featured on the Tarian Group website.
How long does it take to move a surgery to new premises a few meters away? The surgery was open for flu vaccinations last year for half a day, but nothing since. Is it a question of no doctors to fill the posts?
Cynon Linc is the home for several organisations including the new head office of Age Connects Morgannwg. Their information point will allow the community to access the charity’s services which support and enable older people to live a healthier, more independent life. This includes community support, independent advocacy and befriending, as well as nail cutting and information and advice.
The Hyb kitchen and coffee shop sits at the heart of the building and offers quality tea and coffee, healthy light bites and full meals, all overseen by Head Chef Andrew Mason. Another popular part of the facility is Little Lincs, a soft play facility that opened to the public in March 22.
