Welsh Conservatives launch the Big Wales NHS Survey

Welsh Conservatives are today (February 1) taking part in the Big Wales NHS Survey across the country to find out what matters to people in Wales about our NHS.

And there has been no better time to conduct such a survey.

As Angela Burns AM/AC, the Shadow Minister for Health, said:

“The Welsh Labour Government has been running health services in Wales since 1999, and in that time:

The majority of health boards in Wales have been put into special measures or targeted interventions

A & E waiting times hit a disastrous new record each month

Around 6,000 people a month wait more than 12 hours for A & E treatment, while 22,000 wait more than four hours

That target has not been met since its introduction in 2009

The target of 95 percent of cancer treatments to start within 62 days has not been met since its introduction in 2008

“The people of Wales, expect, need, and deserve better.”

She added:

“But thanks to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the UK Conservative Government, the Welsh Labour Government will be getting an additional £1.9 billion to spend on our Welsh NHS.

“However, despite the hard-work and dedication of our Welsh NHS staff, patients still feel let down as they are not receiving the service they deserve when they use the NHS in Wales.

“The Welsh Conservatives plan to empower NHS staff and local people to boost services and enable accountability within our Welsh NHS.

“A Welsh Conservative Government would:

Boost recruitment for doctors, nurses and other health professionals, ending the poor workforce planning by Welsh Labour

Build new rapid diagnostic centres in North, Mid and West Wales speeding up access and ensuring the whole of Wales has access to diagnostic tests

Transform mental health by making sure that mental health is treated with the same urgency as physical health

Invest in Patient Watchdogs, ending the appointments by Welsh Government to Health Boards and protect the independence of Community Health Councils

“It is only with your support that we can deliver a Welsh NHS fit for the 21st century that delivers for patients and enables staff to do what they do best – care for people.

“Everyone’s voice counts, so to make it heard, please click on nhssurvey.wales, and complete the survey.

And let’s all say #ISupportOurNHS #RwynCefnogiEinGIG!”
