Old trash screen refitted by RCTC contractors at the Nant Gwawr Watercourse Aberaman has started to come adrift after just 5 months

Contractors have been back to repoint sections of the new wall constructed alongside the Nant Gwawr watercourse I note someone was checking the work today.

On the 9th April 2021 AberdareOnline email the Infrastructure Asset Manager

Highways Infrastructure at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Ref: Remedial works on the Nant Gwawr informing the trash screen that the Infrastructure Asset Manager Highways Infrastructure said, “The trash screen to which you refer has been reinstated by the contractor.”

I explained, Instead of replacing the damaged trash screen with a new improved screen as you say you just replaced the old one, your contractor has retained and refixed the existing trash screen with steel brackets and galvanized bolts, unfortunately, you or your contractor failed to get the brackets galvanised or even provide a coat of paint, again this is inferior workmanship but good enough for residents of Aberaman it would seem. This the quality and the substandard workmanship the council are accepting as normal now?”

Consequently, as a result, the trash screed has started to come away after just 5 months as the brackets are not strong enough, I don’t think the residents of Cardiff Road Aberaman want another flooding event.

The question is why wasn’t a new trash screen made and built into the brickwork as the old one was more permanent than one lasting just 5 months?
