Labour playing politics with lives in Wales

The BBC has reported further cases of mismanagement Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board as three incidents of “wrong site surgery” are under investigation.

The news follows a damning report by the Royal College of Surgeons into vascular services in the region’s healthcare.

The Welsh Conservatives have previously raised concerns surrounding the Health Board, calling the decision to remove it from special measures was purely political and not based on evidence of significant improvement.

Recent figures have shown that an astonishing 65% and 32% of Ysbyty Glan Clwyd’s emergency patients had to wait over four and 12 hours, respectively, making it the worst performing A&E in Wales.

Commenting on the news, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Minister for Health, Russell George MS said:

“I am incredibly disappointed but frankly, not surprised, by reports such as this which are becoming all to frequent as a result of poor handling of our NHS.

“This is yet further evidence that the decision to remove the health board from special measures was nothing but a political move from Labour Ministers in Cardiff Bay.

“When will Labour Ministers stop playing politics with the lives of people in Wales and address the very real concerns that have been raised about the health board?”
