Child poverty increasing in Labour-run Wales, declining in rest of UK

A new report has found that the proportion of children living in poverty in Wales has risen by 5% between 2019-20 and 2020-21, with the percentage of UK children living in relative poverty falling by 4% in the same time period.

The report was by Loughborough University on behalf of End Child Poverty.

Commenting, Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies MS, said:

“This is a depressing statistic. Labour have been in power here for 23 years, and their failures are actually getting worse.

“I am glad to see that child poverty is decreasing across the UK, but it’s disgraceful that it’s actually increasing in Wales.

“This needs a strong, immediate response, but instead Labour and their allies in Plaid Cymru are obsessing about putting more politicians in Cardiff Bay.”
