Bed shortage crisis in Welsh hospitals Labour cutting 30% of beds in the NHS since 1999.

Commenting on the bed shortage crisis in Welsh hospitals, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Health Minister Russell George MS said:

“Let’s be clear; Labour ministers over successive years are the authors of this situation after cutting 30% of beds in the NHS since 1999.

“Staff morale is at rock-bottom and goes a long way to explaining why there are 3,000 job vacancies in our NHS, which is crippling the delivery of care and services.

“Welsh Conservatives have consistently warned Labour Governments over bed cuts and the staffing crisis in our hospitals, but successive health ministers have just buried their heads in the sand.

“This is a crisis of Labour’s making and instead of pushing through demonstrably ineffective vaccine passports and naval-gazing over constitutional commissions, Mark Drakeford’s government should focus on fixing the problems in the health service that have become so critical on his watch.”
