Acts Of Remembrance 2020

Remembrance Day is one of the most significant events in the nation’s annual calendar of events – bringing communities together to pay their respects and give thanks for the immense sacrifices made by our Armed Forces.

Following Welsh Government guidance, the Council can confirm that as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, no public parades will be able to be undertaken this year.

The Royal British Legion remain at the heart of Remembrance commemorations across the country, but as a result of Covid-19 restrictions, this year the Royal British Legion are asking people to #RememberAtHome

This year, residents are being encouraged to stand on their doorsteps at 11am on 8th November to take part in national two minute silence

The Royal British Legion have also provided some other suggested activities that residents can take part in from the safety of their own home, including:

  • Holding a small Remembrance service in your garden with members of your own household only.
  • Creaing a small space in your garden to commemorate Remembrance (through plants that have a connection, for example)
  • Using an online platform to host a virtual service or activity

For further suggestions, please visit the Royal British Legion’s website here.

Under the guidelines, a limited number of local events will be taking place across the County, but please note that these are not public events and are permitted under the Remembrance guidelines issued by the Welsh Government.  A maximum of 30 invitees from the key relevant organisations will attend each event and must adhere to social distancing at all times.

A limited number of representatives from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, in association with the Royal British Legion, will also take part in a small private service at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, on Sunday November 8th, to remember the fallen.  To facilitate this, Ynysangharad War Memorial Park will be closed to the public on the day until midday, and the Council is asking residents to pay their respects in the safety of their own home.
