Aberdare volunteer fundraising group celebrates 25th anniversary and raising more than £162,000 for Tenovus Cancer Care
Tenovus Cancer Care has thanked its Aberdare Friends of Tenovus group as they get set to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
The fundraising group was set up in 1995 by the then-Chair Alison Isaac, who had lost her father to cancer.
Alison set up the group with friends and people from the community and raised a fantastic £2,500 from their first few events. Over the quarter of a century they’ve held fun events including a strongman competition, bake sales and concerts.
The community in and around Aberdare have been a huge support to the group, joining their events and making generous donations. This has seen the group’s fundraising total reach well over £162,000 and counting.
Due to the current pandemic the group is still keen to raise money and is holding a virtual bucket collection, but as soon as it is safe to do so they’ll be back in their community raising awareness and funds again.
