Welsh Lib Dem victory in Town Council election – the fightback is on

Two by elections took place yesterday for Pontypridd Town Council in the Trallwn and Graig wards.

The Trallwn seat was taken by Amanda Jones with more than 50% of the vote. Amanda said

"Thank you to those who voted for me. I am looking forward to being a part of the Town Council and representing the people of the ward there."

Trallwn's County Councillor, Welsh Liberal Democrat Mike Powell added

"I am sure Amanda will do an excellent job and I am looking forward to being able to work with her on local issues to ensure Trallwn is well represented at both levels of Local Government."

Graig candidate Lee Thacker put up a good showing there where the seat was taken by Independent Bob Fox, a previous County and Town Councillor in the ward.

It was a disappointing night for Labour who came second in both contests. Plaid managed to field a candidate in only one of the seats , Trallwn, where they secured only 35 votes.

Campaign Manager Karen Roberts said

"This must be extremely frustrating for our opponents that despite all their efforts we keep coming back. We may have been down after May's elections but we are certainly not out. The fightback is on.
