Staff, pupils and Governors at St John Baptist Church in Wales High School are delighted that the school has been placed by the Welsh Government as a ‘Green’ and Standard Group 1 school. The Central South Consortia which comprises of the Local Authorities of Rhondda Cynon Taff, Merthyr, Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend has also acknowledged the success of the school by naming it as a highest category ‘A’ school.
The school again achieved the best results in Rhondda Cynon Taff in 2014 for pupils achieving 5 GCSEs grades A*- C including English and Mathematics. This reflects the recent Estyn inspection findings which judged the school to have Excellent Current Performance, Excellent Outcomes, Excellent Standards, Excellent Care, Support and Guidance and Excellent Resource Management. Pupil behaviour is judged as ‘Exceptional’.
Dr S M Mitchell said ‘we are all thrilled at the recognition St John’s is receiving. Our pupils are very welcoming, courteous, helpful and self-disciplined and develop in our Christian ethos. Pupils are ably supported by staff who do all they can to ensure that each child achieves success. We have a variety of causes to cater for the learning needs of all pupils whatever their ability may be. The support given for pupils with additional learning needs has been praised by inspectors as well as the programme for More Able and Talented pupils. We make sure that each individual child is nurtured and is able to flourish in a happy environment’.
