Warm welcome for electrification deal
Commenting on today’s deal to electrify rail track in the south Wales valleys, Welsh Conservative Leader Andrew RT Davies AM, said:
"This is hugely welcome news that will boost the Welsh economy, create jobs and secure growth.
"Today's announcement is more proof of a Conservative-led UK government putting Wales first and investing in our communities.
"This deal will transform the economic landscape in the Valleys and further demonstrates our determined work to help hardworking people across this region.
"We pay tribute to the commitment of the Secretary of State for Wales in getting this done and ensuring infrastructure in Wales gets the investment it needs.
"Electrification is the biggest development to hit Welsh railways since Victorian times - and I am delighted to see Conservatives delivering it."
Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, Byron Davies AM, said:
"This deal will have a hugely beneficial impact on the lives of tens of thousands.
"It is a massively important investment that puts Wales first, prioritises infrastructure and transport, and provides a hugely welcome boost for business.
"Labour didn't electrify an inch of rail track – and their mistakes and lack of attention to detail led to the circumstances preceding today’s solution.
"In stark contrast - this announcement is the real action Wales needs.
"I wholeheartedly welcome the hard work of Conservatives in Wales in securing a pivotal and life-changing deal for our communities.
"From Newport to Swansea and - crucially, into the Valleys - this is what the region needs to secure growth and move forward."
