Volunteers in Aberdare needed to join charity collection

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Diabetes UK Cymru are appealing for enthusiastic volunteers in Aberdare to help out at a collection weekend at their local Tesco store.

The collection will take place as part of a weekend of fundraising at Tesco stores across the UK on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June. The BHF and Diabetes UK aim to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds as part of the major national charity partnership between the two organisations and Tesco.

The charities are recruiting thousands of volunteers across the UK and are looking for 16 volunteers in Aberdare to help out at the Big Collection weekend locally.

Volunteers will play a crucial role in raising funds for a campaign which aims to encourage millions of people to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes by leading a healthier lifestyle. Both conditions are largely preventable, by making healthy lifestyle choices.

The three year partnership aims to raise millions of pounds and the support of volunteers will help to save lives through helping millions eat better and get active, reducing the risk of serious ill-health in the future, as well as helping to fund the vital work the BHF and Diabetes UK do across the UK.

Diabetes UK Cymru’s National Director Dai Williams said: “By joining us at Tesco in Aberdare you can play a vital part in helping people live longer, healthier lives. Cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes are both serious conditions that can shorten lives. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Your support will mean that we can help millions of people reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.”
