Uber arrival welcomed

Uber’s arrival in Cardiff has been labelled a triumph for competition by the Leader of the Welsh Conservatives.

The South Wales Central Assembly Member recently called on local stakeholders to work proactively with the company and support it to set up here.

Writing for YourVoiceInTheAssembly.co.uk in October, Andrew RT Davies acknowledged concerns but highlighted ‘huge demand’ for Uber’s product: http://yourvoiceintheassembly.co.uk/uber/

Speaking after Cardiff Council granted the taxi firm an operating licence, Mr Davies said :

“This is heartening news for Cardiff and the arrival of Uber should be embraced in Wales.

“Competition is a good thing and I remain convinced that this news is positive for both customers and the trade as a whole.

“Welsh Conservatives are the party of the entrepreneur, the innovator; which is why I believe technology should be embraced – not feared.

“In other major UK cities the public has the opportunity to choose between traditional cabs and the new approach offered by Uber.

“There’s no reason why it should be any different here.”
