Theatr Brycheiniog creates a temporary pop-up cafe Waterfront Bistro refurbishment.
Theatr Brycheiniog doors are now wide open to customers with the creation of a temporary pop-up cafe space offering a range of light snacks, ahead of their major refurbishment of the Waterfront Bistro at the end of the summer which will see a number of new jobs created.
The pop-up space has been created through a team of hardworking staff and volunteers to make the most of their downstairs water front cafe space. Visitors to the theatre and the Brecon Basin area can now enjoy food and drink outside and in the pop-up space as well as the first floor Waterfront Bar. The space opening on Tuesday June 13 coincided with the arrival of Timothy West and Prunella Scales who were filming for Channel 4’s Great Canal Journeys. They were joined by the Brecon Male and District Choir to make for a great afternoon. Timothy West went on to tour the building, reliving previous performances that they had both given at the Theatre. Martyn Green, Chief Executive commented:
“I am delighted that the Waterfront ‘Pop-Up’ Cafe has opened this week at Theatr Brycheiniog. Staff and volunteers have worked incredibly hard over the last two weeks to make sure that everything was ready for the opening; working around the clock to ensure the cafe was ready on time to open to the public on Tuesday evening. It was very fitting that actors, Timothy West and Prunella Scales, together with Brecon & District Male Choir were able to join us to celebrate the opening with us.
We want to provide our customers, and visitors to the canal side, with the opportunity to once again be able to enjoy a drink or light snack over the summer months in this incredibly popular waterfront location. “
The full opening of the Waterfront Bistro later in the year will provide another boost to the economy with a number of full time jobs being created in the next few months. The pop-up cafe will currently offer a light snack menu and the Waterfront Bistro, once fully open, will offer a full lunch and evening dinner service in the refurbished space. The redevelopment project has been supported by the European Regional Development Fund through Welsh Government with the aim of delivering sustainable economic growth and jobs and is also supported by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action. The Theatre will be working with local suppliers to provide a full taste of Wales menu that is locally sourced wherever possible, ensuring that the economic growth is spread back into the surrounding community.
With the Theatre nestled next to the beautiful Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, it is the perfect location to enjoy a drink in the sun this summer. The theatre continues to flourish and is receiving increasing audiences from all across Wales bringing more people into the town. With the pop-up cafe now open downstairs all of the income generated will go back into the theatre helping to support its education and outreach work and towards maintaining the theatre for the community.
