Young people from across Rhondda Cynon Taf are enjoying their first taste of show business this festive season in Cultural Services’ annual pantomime.
Jack and the Beanstalk is currently wowing audiences at The Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare, and will be performed at The Park & Dare Theatre, Treorchy from Friday, December 19 to Sunday, December 28.
Young performers from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s very own Take pART programme are appearing in the pantomime’s chorus, with 36 young people in four crews appearing in the show throughout December.
More than 90 youngsters auditioned in October and the successful performers have rehearsed for 10 weeks with choreographer Bridie Smith through RCT’s Take pART participation programme.
Take pART has been running since 2007 and holds weekly classes across the county borough in dance, acting and songwriting. Currently, more than 200 young people a week access the project.
Cllr Councillor Paul Cannon, RCT Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Tourism & Heritage, said: “Thanks to Cultural Services’ innovative Take pART scheme, many people enjoy opportunities to develop their creative talents throughout the year and the annual pantomime provides an excellent opportunity for them to showcase their skills.
“Why not go along and see for yourself these young stars in action over the Christmas holidays? Tickets for the pantomime are still available!”
Jack and the Beanstalk stars Welsh favourites Frank Vickery as Dame Trott, Maxwell James as Jack and Lee Gilbert as Fleshcreep.
The all-Welsh cast also includes Laura Clements as Fairy Flora, Lauren Whiting as Princess Crumble, Jared Chinnock as Utterly and Rebecca Jayne Poole as Butterly.
It tells the story of poor Jack, who is sent to market by his mother to sell the family’s treasured cow. Little does he know that swapping dear Daisy for a bag of magic beans will lead to an adventure he will never forget.
Jack and the Beanstalk is at The Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare until Tuesday December 16 and will then be performed at The Park & Dare Theatre, Treorchy from Friday, December 19 to Sunday, December 28.
Tickets cost £11.00-£15.00 and are available now from the box office on 08000 147 111 or book online at www.rct-arts.co.uk
The box office is open Tuesday- Friday from 11.00am-5pm. Your messages will be taken at all other times.
