Support for Cwm Taf Veterans
Veterans across Cwm Taf are being urged to come forward to access this service. William Watkins and Julie Devlin are Cwm Taf University Health Board’s Veterans NHS Wales team. Based in Pontypridd with Maria
Veterans team poMoruzzi supporting them they provide a service to the many veterans needing help and support after they have been referred from their GP, health professional or following self referral.
William Said: “The veteran’s therapist role involves working alongside an established network of veteran’s agencies and organisations to support the needs of local veterans.
“ Julie and I provide assessment and evidence-based psychological treatment for common mental health problems across different locations within the Health Board. In particular the service is aimed at veterans with service related mental health problems including anxiety and depression".
Maria has been in post since the service commenced in 2010 with William joining in August 2013, having moved from his previous post as a cognitive behavioural therapist.
Due to the demand for the service, last June the Welsh Assembly released extra funding for a secondment for an additional therapist to work an extra two days. In September they were happy to welcome Julie to the team and the waiting list for this service reduced dramatically. Julie currently works between Cwm Taf and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
Professor Donna Mead the Health Boards Independent member for Veterans said: “I am delighted that we have both William and Julie providing this service for Cwm Taf Community. We need to support Veterans as much as we can. This service is essential for the health and well-being of our veterans”.
