Officers fear that warmer weather is making life easier for burglars.
There has been a spate of burglaries across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil in which power tools, laptops, games consoles, mobile phones and cash have been stolen.
The crimes coincide with the recent rise in temperatures and initial enquiries by officers have confirmed that burglars have been able to gain access via insecure doors and windows.
The public are warned not to make their property easy targets for criminals who will scour the streets for the open window.
Ensure windows and doors are locked even when properties are occupied and that any valuables are not left on display.
