Spread the word about Type 1 diabetes symptoms
On Friday 14 November it is World Diabetes Day and I want to take this opportunity to raise awareness of the symptoms of Type 1 diabetes with your readers.
The four main symptoms are easy to remember if you use the 4Ts, which are: toilet, tired, thirsty and thinner. If you or your child are going to the toilet a lot, feeling more tired than usual, have an unquenchable thirst or are losing weight then you or they may have Type 1 diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes can’t be prevented, but by recognising the symptoms you can avoid the potentially life threatening consequences of spotting the condition too late.
If you do spot these then go and see your GP who will be able to perform a simple blood test to see whether you may have the condition. By helping to raise awareness of the symptoms of Type 1 diabetes you could help to spot it as soon as symptoms begin – you could even save a life.
