Shooting in lay-by at Mountain Ash Police appeal for witnesses

We are appealing for information surrounding an incident that took place in a layby on New Road, Mountain Ash at around 7.40pm last night (Sunday, July 26) in an area known locally as Lletty Turner Bends.
Two gunshots were heard coming from the victim’s parked car, a white Audi A3.
The injured man Mark Jones, 43, from Mountain Ash was taken to Prince Charles Hospital with serious injuries, where his condition is currently described as critical.
Detective Chief Inspector Ceri Hughes said: “We need to piece together Mr. Jones’ movements before the shooting. We want to hear from anyone who saw or spent time with him during the course of Sunday evening. We would also like to hear from anyone who was near the layby on New Road, Mountain Ash between 7.30pm and 8pm and saw what happened, the victim’s car or anybody in the area around this time.
“This incident has understandably caused concern to members of the public and we want to reassure the community that we are dealing with this incident as a priority.
“A number of enquiries are currently ongoing, and we have already spoken with a number of witnesses. While we recognise this is worrying for the local community, we do not believe there is a risk to the wider public.”
