Second phase of repairs to Aberaman bridge is underway
The Council has started a necessary second phase of repairs to a road bridge in Aberaman, with works due for completion later this summer.
The structure supports the B4275 Cardiff Road, while Farm Road and the Aman River run beneath it. During 2016/17, an initial phase of repairs to the bridge was completed while Phase 2, thanks to a total £781,000 investment, got underway on May 8, 2018. An allocation of £287,000 towards the scheme was included in the Council’s Highways Capital Programme for 2018/19.
In April 2018, the Council appointed contractor Dyer and Butler to carry out the latest phase of repairs – which will include steelwork and concrete repairs to the underside of the bridge. The scheme is scheduled to last around 12 weeks.
In order to carry out the works a section of Farm Road, beneath the bridge, will close for the duration of the scheme. An alternative route for motorists will be clearly signposted. From the eastern side of the closure proceed via Farm Road, the temporary link road leading to Aberaman Enterprise Park, the B4525 and Farm Road. Motorists travelling in the opposite direction can take the above route in reverse order.
Access to Farm Road will not be maintained for emergency services or pedestrians throughout the scheme.
To enable the steelwork repairs to be undertaken, lane closures on Cardiff Road will also be needed as the scheme progresses. This will require three-way traffic signals on Cardiff Road, and the Council will communicate details of any traffic management before it is implemented.

“Maintaining, repairing and ultimately future-proofing our Highways, including structures such as bridges, continue to be a priority through #RCTinvest. The £23.6m Highways Capital Programme for 2018/19 follows a £20m investment in Highways and Transportation schemes last year, as the Council continues to invest in its road network as one of the Council’s biggest assets.
