The Saints Go Marching on'
Last night St John Boys Year 8 became Cynon Schools Champions. The tournament was held at Mountain Ash RFC and run until 7pm. The boys played all their group matches where we beat Rhydywaun 17-5, then drew with Mountain Ash 5-5 and then in our final group game beat Aberdare Community School 27-0. This meant we reached the final where we would play Mountain Ash Comprehensive again.
It was a fantastic final where the boys were absolutely outstanding in both defence and attack. We were put under huge pressure but the character and tackling of the boys saw us win the final 17-5. There was great support from lots of our parents and several members of staff stayed all evening to support the boys. All the boys were fantastic but there was one standout player who was named player of the tournament and finished top scorer, Isaak Davies. All our squad were involved and everybody played an integral role in us winning the tournament. Well done boys, what a fantastic night.
This caps a fantastic few weeks for St John Boys where our Year 11 also became Cynon Schools Champions after sweeping all the Cynon Valley Schools schools before them, our Year 8 football are also Cynon Schools Champions and the same with our Year 9 football.
Year 11 rugby now progress through to the last 32 of the Welsh School Cup where we play Brecon High School on Wednesday 26th November. Also our Year 8 and 9 football squads have big games this evening against Ysgol Cymmer in the Welsh Schools Cup.
