Renewal of concessionary bus passes by the end of December 2019

Residents may have heard that concessionary bus passes in Rhondda Cynon Taf will have to be renewed soon – and the Council can confirm this is correct, but would like to reassure residents that nothing needs to be done just yet.

Transport for Wales is working with Welsh Government to roll out a new-style Concessionary Travel Card by December 31, 2019. The existing green bus passes will work up until this date.

You may have seen other bus users in possession of a new-style Transport for Wales card. There is no need to worry about this either, as the new cards have been issued for disabled renewals and new applicants since July 2019.

However, the national programme to replace around 750,000 existing bus passes across Wales will begin in late September 2019.

At that time, existing cardholders will be encouraged to apply for their new Transport for Wales card online. The Council will communicate when the application process is open and working – directing residents to Transport for Wales’ website to complete their application.

Applications can be made from home, or by appointment. Assistance can be provided at a local One4aLL Centre or a library. Our front-line staff have been briefed, and can offer help to those who may need support with their application. There is also a national bilingual helpdesk on 0300 303 4240.

Some residents may be concerned about putting their personal details online, but the system has a high level of security.

The Council would again like to reassure residents that nothing has to be done just yet. The application process opens in late September 2019, and then residents will have until December 31, 2019, to renew their passes. Existing green bus passes will be accepted up until this date.
