RCTC need to Think Green this Valentine's
Roses are red, violets are blue - remember to recycle, when you’re through!
Love the Environment this Valentine’s Day and think Green instead of Red.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is supporting Recycle for Wales’ ideas on how to help you save money, reduce the waste you create and recycle more, while you display your romantic side.
Make your own cards - Valentine’s Day is a time to show your partner some love. So, instead of buying a card, why not spend some time and make your own? Taking the time and effort to make a card shows you care, saves money, and helps reduce waste around the home (if you are very creative!). Vist the recycle for Wales website for some inspiration!
Handmade green gifts - Show your loved one how much you care by making them a gift instead of buying one. Everyone loves a gift, but receiving a handmade made one will get you some extra brownie points! This could save money and cuts down on waste by removing the need for excessive packaging.
Lovingly prepared edible treats - Instead of spending a fortune on buying expensive chocolates and other edible treats that come with lots of packaging, you could make your own for a fraction of the price, reduce waste, plus the personal touch is always more appreciated.
Homemade valentine’s meal – what could be more romantic than preparing your loved one a lovingly prepared home cooked dinner. By being creative in the kitchen you can save yourself a lot of money and have a tasty three course meal. Who needs to go out to a fancy restaurant when you can have everything in the comfort of your own home? Don’t forget to recycle any unwanted leftovers!
Flowers – think before you buy - as pretty as they are, they won’t last very long beyond February 14. A lot of resources are put into growing, cutting and wrapping flowers for Valentine’s Day so why not choose a more sustainable way to give your loved one flowers. Potted plants are a great alternative and they could last for years. Try painting the pot to personalise it.
Win some chocolates – sign up to the recycle for Wales newsletter before Feb 14 and win some lovely Valentine’s Day chocs.
Garden waste such as leaves, twigs, grass cuttings and hedge trimmings can be recycled by placing the items into clear recycling bags.
Garden waste is collected on the same day as your recycling.
Love recycling – don’t forget to recycle your cards, wrapping paper, chocolate boxes and flowers. Just place your cards/paper/cardboard in to a clear recycling bag and your green waste in to a separate clear bag and place out for your normal collection. Alternatively you can take these items to any Community Recycling Centre.
