RCT Turns Pink To Support Mayor’s Charity
Rhondda Cynon Taf is set to be “in the pink” this October in a bid to show its support to an extremely worthy cause – Giving to Pink!
To show Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s support various activities are being planned in a bid to raise awareness and money for the important charity – from turning Council buildings pink to school pupils wearing pink!
The Council will be giving its support to Giving to Pink and their "Turn Cwm Taf Pink" Fundraising Day on Friday 14 October.
Giving to Pink, one of the Mayor's charities this year, has organised the day and is calling on as many people as possible to wear pink and raise money for a Specialist Breast Care Unit for Cwm Taf at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Councillor Rhys Lewis, said: "Each year, the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf identifies a number of charitable causes to support and raise money for during their year of office.
"Following an inspiring meeting with the Chair of Giving to Pink, Clare Smart, I was adamant that the charity would be one I would support during my year as Mayor.
"Unfortunately many of us will know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and the money being raised by Giving to Pink will support the development of a first class and specialist Breast Care Unit in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
"Turn Cwm Taf Pink Day gives us all the opportunity to show our support for this extremely worthwhile cause which will in time benefit many from across Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cwm Taf and indeed South Wales and I am delighted that the Council, it's staff and lots of schools from across the County Borough will be getting involved and turning pink on Friday 14 October.
"Turning the Rhondda Heritage Park and the Council's two theatres – the Park and Dare and the Coliseum – pink and staff fundraising on the day are just two examples of how the Council will be supporting “Turn Cwm Taf Pink” Day and I am also looking forward to visiting one or two of our schools to check in on their fundraising exploits.

Clare Smart, of Giving to Pink, said: "The support of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and in particular the Council's Deputy Leader, Cllr Maureen Webber and the Mayor, Cllr Rhys Lewis, has been brilliant and has certainly helped to raise the profile of the charity and what we are trying to achieve on Friday 14 October.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the communities in Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil to show just what can be achieved when we work together to raise money for a great cause.

Allison Williams, Chief Executive of Cwm Taf UHB, added: “This is an exciting opportunity for local people to get involved in local fundraising for their local hospital and at the same time have some fun in the process.
“We already have amazing clinical staff delivering world-class care to our patients with breast cancer. Money raised through this fantastic campaign will all be spent improving the facilities in the Hospital so that we can provide the care in the environment these patients so rightly deserve.”
Turn Cwm Taf Pink Day takes place on Friday 14 October and schools, businesses, groups and individuals are all encouraged to take part and raise money for a specialist Breast Care Unit for Cwm Taf.
