Newydd, with more than 800 properties in RCT, has been shortlisted for two categories in the Inside Housing Development Awards to be held at the Hurlingham Club in London on 23rd November 2017.

Newydd’s Development and New Business Team, who build 150 affordable homes across the Vale of Glamorgan, Rhondda Cynon Taff and Powys each year, has been shortlisted for ‘Best Development Team’ at the prestigious awards. Examples of their work include the regeneration of flats near Pontypridd to a housing co-operative, the redevelopment of a seaside hotel on Barry Island as well as rural homes designed to blend sympathetically with traditional nearby properties.

Regeneration projects in Barry working with the Welsh Government and the Vale of Glamorgan Council have also earned Newydd a place on the shortlist in the ‘Best Partnership’ category. Without the successful partnership between the three organisations in providing more than £1 million to revive the town centre, properties at two locations in Barry would have remained vacant. The successful partnership has supported job creation and economic growth for the area tackled poverty by providing further affordable homes and supported the aim of the Welsh Government to improve the vibrancy and vitality of town centres.

Other achievements for Newydd includes securing an additional £4.85 million of Social Housing Grant from the Welsh Government during 2016/7 to build affordable homes, an increase of more than 700% on what was expected.

Paul Roberts, Chief Executive of Newydd said, “Our staff are very ambitious and this is reflected not only in the quantity of work they deliver but in the quality too. Our tenants tell us again and again that they love their new homes and this is down to the hard work of the team in thinking creatively, using partnership working to its best effect and ensuring that properties are delivered to a high standard and on time. I am very proud of them and wish them every success at the ceremony on the 23rd.”
