RCT Events Cancelled

As the coronavirus national health emergency continues, the Council has taken the decision to extend the cancellation of all Authority-run events up to and including the month of September.

The decision to extend the period has been taken in light of the preparation and organisation required to host events and also in the interests of public safety as the coronavirus national health emergency continues to progress.

In March, the Council initially announced that all events up to and including the month of June would be cancelled, alongside the closure of the Welsh Mining Experience and the Council Theatres, as staff from these areas were being diverted to supporting the continued functioning of the key frontline services that are supporting communities and residents – including the County’s most vulnerable during this unprecedented time.

Whilst the Council appreciates that residents will have been looking forward to the return of annual favourites such as the Big Welsh Bite and the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, the redeployment of staff to support frontline services and the social distancing measures regrettably means that it is not possible for the Council to stage the upcoming events or properly undertake the necessary preparation and planning for the summer events under the current circumstances.

The Council is also awaiting national guidance from the UK Government on the commemorations of the 75thanniversary of VE Day and will inform residents of any updates as appropriate.
