St John Baptist Church in Wales High School has officially launched its partnership with Premier League Swansea City Football Club.
A Swansea City coach, Joel Moody, is working at the school to further develop pupils' footballing skills in liaison with staff at the school.
Lee Trundle, a former Swansea City football player who is now ambassador and youth team coach, launched the partnership at St John's on 24 February 2015. He ran a training session for Years 7, 8 and 9 which was inspirational for the footballers. He then held a 'question and answer' session about how to become a top footballer. He shared his memories and gave advice.
Each week pupils will receive coaching to improve their footballing skills. St John's is working closely with Mr Nigel Rees, Academy Manager, who has already provided kit and resources for the pupils.
St John's is also delivering the 'Premier League Reading Scheme' aimed at inspiring more pupils to read to a higher standard.
Dr S M Mitchell said ' This is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils and we are delighted that our footballers will be able to access such high quality coaching at the school. Our football, rugby, netball and hockey teams already achieve great success and this will enable pupils to develop their talents further.
