Postal voters in RCT could lose out following elections slip up.

As reported by Wales Online a slip up at the elections office in Rhondda Cynon Taff could mean some people will not be able to cast their votes at next week's Assembly election.

It appears that's some postal vote application forms were wrongly processed and some voters were only registered for a vote at the European elections.

Councillor Mike Powell, who is the Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate for Pontypridd said

"This came to me attention when a gentleman from the Lan Park area of Pontypridd contacted me to say that he had not received his postal vote and that he had paid two visits to the office to try and find out the problem before eventually being issued with a voting paper and told that there had been an error.

"The records showed that his application form, which they had received and which was correctly filled in, had been incorrectly processed.

"I was also contacted by a lady in Cilfynydd who said that none of the four people in her house had received their postal ballot papers. She was told they would be sent out on Friday, but two of them are going on holiday in the early hours of Friday morning. Also this is a Bank Holiday weekend so it leaves little time for them to arrive and be sent back even for those who will be at home.

"The elections department in RCT is excellent and in many years dealing with them I have always found them to be very efficient. What happened this time I don't know but questions must be asked, not of the overworked office staff but of the Returning Officer."
