Pontypridd incident: Teenager arrested for breaching criminal behaviour order

As part of an investigation following a disturbance which occurred in Pontypridd on Friday, May 3, 18 year-old Kyle Townsend from Aberdare has been charged with breaching his criminal behaviour order.
He will appear at Merthyr Magistrates Court on Friday, 10 May, 2019.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing – officers expect to make further arrests over the coming days.
Concern arose after police received a number of reports from the public about youths gathering in Pontypridd on Friday.
Officers used Section 35 notices to disperse groups and also exercised powers under Section 60 to stop and search people acting suspiciously.
To avoid a repeat of recent events, parents of youths across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil are being urged to speak to their children and ensure they are fully aware of what they are doing, especially at weekends.
Officers have been and continue to focus their enquiries on a number of videos which have been published and shared online.
Local Policing Inspector Stephen Daley, said: “We are finding more out about what happened and we will be taking further action.
“My message is for people to use their common sense – just following the crowd, which appears to be what most of those in Pontypridd town on Friday were doing, could actually land them in trouble and they risk ending up with a criminal record.”
