Paediatric Audiology services in Cwm Taf among the best in Wales

Cwm Taf University Health Board are among the best in Wales for the provision of Paediatric Audiology Services for babies and young children.
Since the start of Universal New Born Hearing Screening in Wales there has been an increasing interest in measuring the quality of hearing services.
The Quality Standards for Paediatric Audiology (Wales) were launched in 2010.  Following the launch consultation with patients, the Voluntary Sector and Welsh experts in the field were carried out and standards were set. These were later endorsed by the Standing Scientific Advisory group for Audiology and the Health Minister.
Following the first assessment against these standards, Health Board Chief Executives and Heads of Audiology were instructed to introduce local action plans to ensure paediatric audiology services improve and meet progressive targets relating to these standards.  Following a visit in March 2014 they concluded that Cwm Taf University Health Board had achieved 98% compliance which is one of the highest in Wales and we continue to strive to reach 100%.
Tanya Horton, Chief Audiologist for Cwm Taf University Health Board said: “We’re proud to have first class facilities in both Ysbyty Cwm Cynon & Keir Hardie University Health Park. This means that all babies & children who require a hearing assessment can be seen in purpose- built sound-proofed facilities. We are now achieving quality standard scores that are among the best in Wales”.
