Over 2 tonnes of waste cleared at Cwm Taf Fechan
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has recently taken part in a clean-up day in Cwm Taf Fechan, a woodland Site of Special Scientific Interest, where over 2 tonnes of waste was collected.
The event was organised by Pontsticill Community Group earlier this February to help tackle the fly tipping in the area.
The clean-up day targeted 2 areas most affected by illegal waste dumping but left the bridge at Blue Pool due to health and safety reasons.
During the day several types of waste were cleared including litter, car tyres, TV’s, windows Fire places, needles and animal parts.
An Environment Officer for NRW, said:
“NRW are delighted to support work like this, ensuring a protected and improved environment for our local communities.”
“The event was a massive success in making this historic and outstanding area of beauty more appealing for the public and will encourage more visitors to enjoy Cwm Taf Fechan and surrounding attractions.
“Hopefully we can support our partners in future projects and continue to improve community use and access in areas like this one.”
The event was carried out by members of the local community, Wildlife Trust, Keep Wales Tidy, Brecon Beacons National Parks Authority and from Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s Biodiversity, Cleansing and Tidy Towns teams.
