With submission week rapidly looming artists are reminded that entries for the upcoming Open Art Competition will be accepted at Y Galeri Caerffili between 3 - 7 November. The event, sponsored by Caerphilly Town Council, is open to amateur and professional artists, aged 18 and over, who are given free creative rein over the work they submit. Artists can enter up to 3 artworks. Following submission, around 130 artworks will be selected to form the Caerphilly Open Winter Exhibition exhibition and kick start Y Galeri Caerffili’s 2016 programme in the new year.
The winning artist will stand to win a cash prize of £750, with £250 going to the runner up and £50 for the popular Visitors Choice Award. Artworks measuring up to 36” x 24” (91.4 x 61cms) will be accepted. It’s not just wall hung work that can be submitted either, the organisers are keen to promote the event to artists working 3 dimensionally, also so that the resulting exhibition is varied and eclectic. Sculptors, ceramicists and artists working in glass, textiles, metal or any other media may be interested to hear this.
Submissions are in the form of photographs or images of artworks on a disk - not actual artworks at this stage. Entry fee: £10 per artwork. Application forms are available, either from Y Galeri Caerffili or can be downloaded from the website: www.ygalericaerffili.co.uk
