Open Art / Call for Artists

Picture this….. would you like to see your artworks on display in an art gallery and seen by hundreds of visitors or perhaps the idea of winning a cash prize appeals. Both could be a reality. If we’ve grabbed your attention then you may well be interested in entering Caerphilly’s forthcoming Open Art Competition. With submission week rapidly looming it’s time for amateur and professional artists, aged 18 and over, to get painting, drawing and creating.

There is free rein over the work that can be submitted – any media, any subject. It’s not just wall hung work that can be submitted either, the organisers are keen to promote the event to artists working 3 dimensionally also so that the resulting exhibition is varied and eclectic. Sculptors, ceramicists and artists working in glass, textiles, metal or any other media may be interested to hear this. Artists can enter up to 3 artworks: they must be original and must be for sale. Following submission, around 120 artworks will be selected by a panel of judges to form the Open Winter Exhibition for display in Y Galeri Caerffili during January 2017.

The winning artist stands to win a cash prize of £750 plus the offer of an exhibition in 2017, with £250 going to the runner up and £50 for the popular Visitors Choice Award. Caerphilly Town Council is once again sponsoring the event and will award the new Llannion Award for the artwork they deem as best in show. Artworks measuring up to 36” x 24” (91.4 x 61cms) will be accepted.  Entry fee is £10 per artwork (non refundable). Submissions are in the form of photographs or images of artworks on a disk – not actual artworks at this stage.  Submissions will be accepted from Tues 1 – Thurs 10 November.
To coincide with the call for entries, a solo show from the winner of this year’s competition has just been launched.  Mark Youd’s exhibition ‘Fragments’ depicting portraits runs until 5 November.

Full details and application forms for the competition are available from Y Galeri Caerffili, Ground Floor, The Visit Caerphilly Centre, The Twyn, Caerphilly, CF83 1JL or can be downloaded: www.ygalericaerffili.co.uk
