Only Plaid Cymru offers rural Wales a positive choice
Labour and Tories offer a double negative for rural Wales
Only Plaid Cymru has a record of standing up for Welsh farmers. That was the message of Jonathan Edwards, the party’s candidate in Carmarthen East and Dinefwr today.
Citing manifesto commitments from the Conservatives that threaten to drag Wales out of Europe, and the Labour commitment to cut the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), Jonathan Edwards said that Plaid Cymru is the only party promising to protect the funding streams that Welsh rural businesses depend on.
The Party of Wales candidate said that a cut to the EU and CAP budgets, the Welsh Government’s decision to move 15% of Pillar 1 funding away from farmers, and falling dairy and meat prices had led to a perfect storm for Welsh farmers. He said that only Plaid Cymru offers a positive choice for the agricultural sector in Wales.
The Party of Wales candidate in Carmarthen East and Dinefwr Jonathan Edwards said:
“Plaid Cymru is the champion of rural Wales. We are the only party that has a strong record of standing up for farmers and rural businesses, and opposing the establishment parties’ threats to the EU funding that the sector depends on.
“More than 80% of Welsh businesses depend on the Common Agricultural Policy yet the Labour manifesto commits to cutting that funding stream, while the Tories are threatening to cut it entirely by withdrawing from Europe. The agricultural sector is being offered a double negative by the Westminster parties – only Plaid Cymru offers a positive alternative.
“Plaid Cymru rejects these direct attacks on Welsh agriculture. We will always act in the best interests of Wales. We will fight to protect the funding streams that Wales rely on, to make Europe work for Wales, and we will fight to secure the best deal for Welsh farmers.”
