Nosey PCSO uncovers Aberdare cannabis factory
An Aberdare PCSO proved he has a nose for the job this week after sniffing out tens of thousands of pounds worth of cannabis.
While on foot patrol PCSO Steve Taylor followed his senses on Thursday afternoon which led him to a large outhouse just off the High Street next to the old Conservative Club.
Officers secured a search warrant under the misuse of Drugs Act and entered the premises - which is approximately 800 squares metres – on Thursday morning (9 July, 2015).
At around 11am, officers opened the steel doors to the premises and discovered cannabis plants growing in different rooms throughout the building, which is believed to have a street value of tens of thousands of pounds.
Two men, aged 21 and 41, have been arrested and taken into custody. Both are believed to be foreign nationals.
Local Policing Inspector Simon Merrick, said: “I want my officers to be out and about in the community. I want them to be vigilant and to act on their suspicions. Steve did a grand job on Thursday and his actions have helped this drugs factory out of business.”
PCSO Steve Taylor noticed the smell of cannabis while walking along High Street.
He returned to the area a number of times in the hope that it would lead him to the source, and it did.
He said: “If I could smell it, others could too. We had no calls over the past few days so it does stress the importance that people should report the smell of cannabis. Whether it’s one person using the drug or a factory producing tens of thousands of pounds worth, we’ll send somebody to investigate.”
