MS Witnesses Young people develop transferrable skills through Forces Fitness

Joel James MS recently met with Sean Molino of Forces Fitness, a small business enterprise that applies military training to promote health and fitness.

Sean, a former Welsh Guard, created Forces Fitness with the aim of inspiring people of all ages, to make positive lifestyle choices to improve the health and well-being of all who take part in his sessions.

His company has gone from strength to strength since its formation in 2007 and has won numerous awards, including a Gold Employer Recognition Scheme award.

Forces Fitness work with a range of people, from children as young as 6 years old, to adults looking to increase their fitness and develop transferrable skills, sessions are run by either ex or serving members of the armed forces and apply specific training to make positive lifestyle changes.

Joel met Sean at the Cardiff City FC House of Sport in Cardiff and saw first-hand how teenagers were developing life skills that they could transfer into jobs. Speaking at the session, Joel said:

“I’m delighted to join Forces Fitness here today at Cardiff City FC Academy, Sean and his team are making a really positive contribution to the people of South Wales, encouraging a healthy mind and body, which will be critical as we emerge fully from lockdown.”

The training that was carried out not only had a physical element, but also targeted health and social wellbeing, working as part of a team, problem solving, command tasks and activities which help improve an individual’s motivation.

Joel was lucky enough to try his hand at a few of the activities and found them challenging and satisfying in equal measure, he was astounded at the determination of the young people and impressed by how Sean and his team engaged with them.

Teenagers from across South Wales were full of praise for the day’s training and had travelled up to two hours to reach the venue; testament to the popularity of the scheme, which was free to participants.

Joel thoroughly enjoyed his time with Forces Fitness and wholeheartedly supports the work they do and what they stand for. He finished his visit with a tug of war, reluctantly admitting defeat to his younger opponents, but is sure he will win next time!
