Llantrisant residents have little to smile about

Been out delivering leaflets in a gloriously sunny Llantrisant this afternoon. However apart from the weather it seems that residents there have little to smile about.

The Co-op have just shut the Post Office at Southgate meaning residents have a considerable distance to go for Post Office services. This could make life difficult especially for the elderly and disabled without transport. It is difficult to see how the Co-op who claim to be a community orientated business could make this decision and close the service before there was any option to relocate.

RCT Council pushed ahead with plans to change the catchment area for Y Pant and Bryncelynnog despite considerable local opposition. This means that many children from Llantrisant and Penygawsi schools will now have to travel to Bryncelynnog for secondary education. Now whilst Bryncelynnog is a perfectly good school it is nowhere near as accessible as Y Pant. It is especially galling for parents when they see the amount of money being spent on Y Pant improvements.

The Health Board under the direction of the Welsh Labour Government are removing services from the Royal Glamorgan hospital in Llantrisant. Severe trauma, in patient paediatrics, consultant led maternity and neo natal will be moved out and residents will have to travel to Merthyr or Bridgend for these services. Apart from turning up to a couple of phot shoots at the beginning then local Labour elected members seem to have done nothing to fight this.

The people of Llantrisant, as the rest of RCT,are being badly let down by their Labour representatives. It is time to stop the cosy consensus and vote for change.
