Housing development in Porth needs a name

Housing development in Porth needs a name

Newydd Housing Association is asking local people to name a new housing development at the site of the former St Luke’s Church in Porth, for a cash prize.

Acquired by Newydd in March this year, this site, built in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Welsh Government, will provide 10 brand new one bedroom apartments for affordable rent.

A cash prize of £50 is available to the competition winner for naming this development on St Luke’s Road in Porth, a village in Rhondda Cynon Taff. The name for the housing development should encompass the whole scheme and needs to be based on a local connection or a historic interest. Porth is regarded as the gateway to the Rhondda Fawr and Rhondda Fach valleys as both valleys meet here, the word ‘Porth’ is Welsh for ‘gate’.

To be eligible to win the naming competition you must live in Rhondda Cynon Taf and entries need to be received by Friday 22ndDecember. Your entries can be emailed to Julia Hopkins on julia.hopkins@newydd.co.uk or sent to Julia Hopkins, Newydd Housing Association, 5 Village Way, Tongwynlais CF15 7NE.

Local people with an interest in renting these homes must register with Homefinder RCT, the local housing register managed by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. The properties will be advertised for affordable rent on the Homefinder RCT website when the scheme is nearing completion, it is anticipated to be ready early 2019.
