High tides set to affect Welsh coastline
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is warning people to take extra care along the coastline over the coming days as high tides coincide with Storm Eleanor potentially causing disruption and possible flooding in some areas.Flood Warnings have been issued around the Welsh coastline today

Tuesday) and will continue to be in force for tomorrow morning’s high tide.
The first of the high tides is expected in south Wales this evening at around 7pm, reaching the north Wales coastline around 11pm. These conditions are also expected to last across the Wednesday morning and evening tides.
In south east Wales, tomorrow morning’s high tide is causing the most concern and 12 flood warnings are expected to be issued.
In North Wales, four flood warnings will be in place for Gimblet Rock caravan park in Pwllheli, Morfa Bychan, Barmouth and Fairbourne, for the high tides at 8.30pm this evening (Tuesday).
In South West Wales, 16 flood warnings are in place for communities along the coast covering this evening’s and tomorrow morning’s high tides.
The number of warnings is correct at time of issue.
Staff have also been out on site in vulnerable areas closing tidal gates and checking flood defences are in good working order ahead of the tides.
Ceri Jones, from Natural Resources Wales said:
“High tides and strong winds caused by Storm Eleanor could lead to storm surges which could lead to dangerous conditions on the Welsh coast over the next few days.
“At this time of year there will be lots of people out and about visiting family and enjoying some time off and our advice is to keep at a safe distance from the coast, and from piers and promenades which will be particularly exposed.
“Large waves could overtop defences and throw up debris – this could easily cause injury or knock you off your feet.
“We’ll be keeping a close eye on the situation over the next few days and monitoring forecasts around the clock. We’re also in touch with local authorities across Wales to coordinate our plans and make sure we are as best prepared as we can be.”
