We are delighted to announce that Vattenfall is one of the major sponsors at the 2014 Nos Galan Road Races

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is delighted to announce that Vattenfall is one of the major sponsors at the 2014 Nos Galan Road Races.

The Swedish power company is one of Europe's largest generators of electricity and largest producer of heat.

Event organisers Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Nos Galan Committee welcome Vattenfall on board - the company behind the Pen Y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project, a flagship 76-turbine scheme situated within the County Borough.

The other main sponsors of the 2014 Nos Galan Road Races are Kier Construction, Amgen Cymru, RCT Homes and Communities First (Lower Cynon Cluster).

Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Cllr Andrew Morgan, who is also a Member of the Nos Galan Committee and local Member for Mountain Ash West, where the races take place, said: “We are delighted that Vattenfall and our other sponsors, who are already committed to the County Borough, are throwing their weight behind our prestigious event.

“We are having a brilliant year, having already being crowned Best Fun Run in Britain at the 2014 UK Running Awards. Races founder Bernard Baldwin MBE has also been granted the Freedom of Rhondda Cynon Taf and demand for places at this year’s races on New Year’s Ever are greater than ever before.

“The Nos Galan Road Races are as popular today as they have ever been and our five main sponsors recognise how successful this event is, which is why they are joining forces with us in a partnership which I hope will continue well into the future.”

Vattenfall is committed to bringing economic opportunity to the region and local business.

Stephen Holdroyd, Senior Development Manager, Vattenfall Wales, said: “We are delighted to be a part of the world-famous Nos Galan Road Races. It is a leading light in the world of athletics in Wales, therefore it is only fitting that the event is supported by one of the leading lights in European wind energy.

“We are proud to be associated with the Nos Galan Road Races and to be working closely with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.”

Once built, Pen y Cymoedd will be the largest onshore wind energy project in

England and Wales. The project is located in the heart of Rhondda Cynon Taf, on the Welsh Government’s Woodland Estate, which is managed by Natural Resources Wales.
