RCT Welsh Liberal Democrats have announced Ms George Summers as their Parliamentary candidate for the Rhondda.
George is a mother of a three year old son and works part time as an admin assistant at Cardiff University. She says she is delighted to have been given this opportunity.
"It is time for a change in the Rhondda. The area is falling further and further behind with high unemployment and seemingly little to offer future generations. We need to bring the pride back to the Valleys - along with more and better jobs giving our young people something to aim for an a reason to stay.
"The Liberal Democrats in Government at Westminster have steered the economy back on track and by increasing the basic tax allowance put extra money back into the pockets of millions of working people. It has not been an easy ride for many of us, but we are now heading in the right direction and we need to keep it going that way.
"As a mother I particularly want to see more emphasis put on childcare and education. Whilst education is devolved and a matter for the Welsh Government our Assembly Members negotiated the pupil deprivation grant which has put over £7 million into RCT schools this year. This was following the introduction of a similar scheme by Liberal Democrats in England.
"The Rhondda deserves an MP who will fight for more policies such as this that bring direct benefit to people in this area. Also someone who will stand up and fight against the decimation of our front line services by the Council and the removal of so many of our health services by Labour."
