Family summer fair to save hearts to be held at Ynysangharad Park

Ynysangharad War Memorial Park Pontypridd is gearing up for its very first family fun-filled summer fair, which takes place on Saturday 22nd Aug from 11am to 5pm.

Families can enjoy an array of activities from the Freemans fun fair, face painting, Wills Go Karts, Crepes and Donuts, Crazy Golf and stalls selling a range of local and regional fine food, gifts and jewellery. Local entertainment will be provided from choirs to dance groups including Groove Thing who were the semi finalists from Britain’s got Talent. There will be singers such as Sir Tom Jones aka Dean Jones and resident DJ Martin Dibble with Club Fusion entertaining the crowd. The Mayor Barry Stephens will be opening the event which is free for everyone.

The summer fair is being organised by a group of local volunteers who are fundraising for the RCT100 Dai Fib Appeal which has been launched by local charity, Welsh Hearts Calonnau Cymru. Dr Bob Baron, a GP from Tonypandy who is fully behind the RCT100 Dai Fib Appeal explains more:

"RCT suffers the worst level of premature cardiac deaths in Wales and suffers the worst in Europe. Approximately 8000 sudden cardiac deaths occur in Wales every year outside hospital. Following two recent sudden deaths in Tonypandy I wanted to support Welsh Hearts to equip every small community in RCT with Public Access Defibrillators & training assisted by over 200 volunteer trainers who are fellow doctors, nurses and paramedics. The RCT100 Project recognises the health problems faced by Welsh patients and will hopefully save lives."

The charity is working alongside Doctors and Cardiologists throughout Wales who give their time free to the charity. Welsh Hearts have also recently opened their first charity shop with the help of local volunteers in Tonypandy with all of the proceeds going directly to the RCT100 Dai Fib Appeal.

Welsh Hearts was set up in 2013 for the widespread provision of Defibrillators across Wales. To help us achieve this goal, Welsh Hearts set up a special appeal called The Dai Fib appeal – The defibrillator Appeal for Wales.
To date, Welsh Hearts have trained over 6,500 people & placed approximately 185 AED Defibrillators throughout Wales. We are training in schools, rugby clubs & any communities who need it.
Welsh Hearts would like to see a Defibrillator next to every Fire Extinguisher in Wales.
We are working on the ‘saving young lives’ initiative in Welsh schools going into all Secondary and Primary schools in Wales teaching CPR, Defibrillator and basic first aid training for younger pupils. We are also working alongside the WRU on our ‘Saving Lives in Welsh Rugby Clubs’ with the placing of defibrillators in all Welsh Rugby Clubs, and we very grateful to our Medical Lead Dr Gareth Roberts and a team of Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics and First Responders who give up their free time to support us.
This year we will be working alongside Cardiologists throughout Wales offering heart-screening sessions from 14 years to 35 years of age and we are also supporting the work of the Heart Research Institute for Wales.
The work of Welsh Hearts is vital for the people of Wales and we rely on donations of time and money to assist us with our work. We are proud of the fact that every penny raised in Wales stays in Wales.
