Don't Lose Out On Your Vote
Have you returned your Election registration documents yet? If not, you risk not being eligible to vote at any forthcoming elections.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Electoral Registration team are busy compiling the annual register of elections and have recently sent SECOND reminders to non-responding properties.
The process of getting people registered now moves into the final stage and this means all non-responding properties will now have personal visits to gain the information of who resides at these properties.
This is to ensure that the Register of Electors is as up-to-date as possible ahead of next year’s elections, including elections to the National Assembly for Wales and for the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner on May 5, 2016.
The Council’s Electoral Registration team will have a list of properties to call at and will be calling at properties from which no form has been returned.
Canvassers will be calling from October 17 to November 1 to gather this information. They can assist in completeing the form but will require a signiture confirming the details provided are correct.
Canvassers will also be posting forms to some electors whoneed to provide additional information, such as National Insurance number and date of birth. These will be delivered between November 7-15.
Paul Lucas, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Electoral Registration Officer, said: “Please assist us in during this period and provide the outstanding information we require.
“If you have your form still uncompleted,,please complete it in readiness for the call as this will allow the canvassers more time to assist those residents who need addional help in completing theirs.
“Residents are reminded that they are required by law to complete these forms and failure to do this could result in a fine of up to £1,000.
“Registering to vote is quick and simple. All you have to do is update the form with details of everyone who lives in the household and is eligible to vote, and return it to us as soon as possible. It’s your vote, don’t lose it.”
The electoral register is an important document and is used to verify someone, for example official Credit Reference Agencies, to prove that someone is genuine applicant. Failure to be registered may mean that you are unable to get a mortgage, loan or mobile phone.
