Donate shoeboxes for the elderly

PEOPLE from Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) are this month (December 2017) being reminded they can still donate shoeboxes of items for elderly and vulnerable people being supported by a care provider in the area.

Abacare, which has offices in RCT, is running the shoebox appeal for its service users who may not be able to get outside to pick up essentials during the festive season.

Sarah Williams, Registered Manager at Abacare, said: “We don’t want anyone to feel isolated or alone this Christmas so we’re reminding people that there is still time to take part in our shoebox appeal.

“People can fill the shoeboxes with anything they think might be useful including hats, scarves, slippers and toiletries as well as something a bit more festive and fun for Christmas.”

Any shoeboxes can be dropped off or sent to Abacare’s offices at Ty Cynon, Navigation Park, Abercynon, Rhondda Cynon Taf, CF45 4SN. The deadline for boxes to be sent is Friday, December 15.

Abacare will then distribute any donations amongst its service users.

Sarah added: “We think this is a really great way to treat our service users and we hope lots of people get involved.

“People who take part in our shoebox appeal are the types of caring, honest, reliable and good-natured people we want working for us. They have a natural affinity to care and we would encourage them to consider taking on a position in the industry with us or even just working a few hours per week to help an elderly person in their home.

“We provide a valuable service to the people of Wales and new staff are needed on a daily basis. We offer free, full training and the opportunity for career advancement. We’re also very flexible with working hours, so if anyone is interested in joining the team, they should give us a call on 01443 742645 for more information.”
