Decision to close Porth Fire Station was wrong

The mountainside around the Rhondda in particular has been devastated this week by seemingly never ending fires which are presumably set my mindless vandals with nothing better to do.

Our fire services have been stretched to the limit and they must be absolutely exhausted. Crews have been drawn in from across the region. It begs the question what happens if there is a serious house or factory fire whilst so many crews are stuck up on the mountainside.

A short while ago a consultation took place on the closure / cut back of fire services in RCT. The choice was between cutting the second crew at Pontypridd or closing Porth. The decision was eventually made in favour of Pontypridd.

RCT Welsh Lib Dems argued that neither should be lost, as did many others, but the Labour dominated Fire Authority were determined one had to go. The extreme pressure being put on crews now shows how wrong they were.
