Council Website Gets Top Ranking
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s popular website continues to go from strength to strength and has been ranked among the best in the UK.
The Council's website has ranked higher than 429 other similar sites and attained the highest UK score for accessibility and quality features, when assessed by an independent review body, Sitemorse, who regularly monitor websites from a very wide range of organisations.
The assessment is to ensure websites attain very specific standards for accessibility, resilience, quality, performance and web compliance standards.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Council Business and Corporate Affairs, Cllr Maureen Webber said, "The demand for the Council's website services is growing with over 1.5 million 'hits' to Council web pages during 2013-14.
“We know that over 44% of our customers now prefer to access the site via a mobile smart phone or on a tablet device.
“Its important that customers are offered a good experience and this independent assessment is an endorsement of our on-going efforts to improve the site.”
The review body scores each Local Authority independently and checks websites to ensure pages download or appear on screen to the customer at an efficient speed.
It also checks whether there are no broken links within the site, it is free of error messages and complies to national standards that monitor images, documents and hyperlinks to ensure they are usable to those citizens with difficulties such as poor sight.
When all of these services function correctly the Council’s Customer Care and Communications team can be sure that the customer’s experience on the web is an enjoyable and user friendly one.
These results highlight the hard work and efforts that is being undertaken by the team, in conjunction with all service areas that support the site to the benefit our visitors and residents.
