Children in Wales welcomes appointment of Children’s Commissioner
Children in Wales has welcomed the appointment of Professor Sally Holland as the next Children’s Commissioner for Wales.
The Welsh Government announced the appointment on 28th January following a public appointment recruitment exercise, including an interview by young people and a cross-Ministerial panel.
The Children’s Commissioner for Wales acts as an independent champion for children and young people, advocating their interests and making sure their voices are heard at a local, national and international level.
Professor Holland will replace the outgoing Keith Towler, who has come to the end of his 7 year tenure in the role. She is known for her participative academic work, and is and is the Director and founder of CASCADE Children’s Social Care Research Centre.
The appointment follows the review of the role and fucntions of the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, led by Dr Mike Shooter, an expert in child psychiatry and previous Chair of Children in Wales.
